| Information Technology Services typically responds to 11,000 requests for services annually. These requests range from simple tasks like resetting passwords to complex software development or deployment requests. The department also initiates several projects each year designed to enhance existing offerings, provide new capabilities and maintain the technology infrastructure. Current Enterprise Initiatives:VoIP Initiative - This multiyear project is transforming the County's telecommunications architecture from a PBX based environment to Voice over IP. Approximately 15 departments/locations have migrated to the new infrastructure. All county departments are expected to use VoIP phone systems by 2010. Enterprise Land Records - The Enterprise Land Records project has been initiated at the request of the Records and Tax Administration department, the County Treasurer, the County Appraiser, the County Manager’s Office, and Information Technology Services Department in order to provide a robust, integrated technology environment for the land records business functions. The project will consist of several phases to be implemented over multiple years. This initiative intends to provide integrated, seamless processing and access for land record data. This data is generated and used by several County departments and external organizations for a variety of purposes. Wireless Initiative - After reviewing responses to a Request for Proposal to provide a wireless broadband network across the County, Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe and Johnson County have selected a proposal submitted by Sprint. This proposal provides Sprint EVDO cards at a price discount now, with a commitment to provide WiMAX in the future as that product is brought to the Kansas City Market. Enterprise Timekeeping - After completing a requirements gathering activity, this project team that the majority of County requirements can be met by using the existing Oracle Time and Labor (OTL) product. Some departments will need additional capabilities such as the use of time clocks for some staff and the ability to set schedules for staff. These needs will be addressed in subsequent phases of this project. Currently, OTL is being deployed. Business Continuity Planning - ITS is currently developing a comprehensive business continuity plan that will serve to ensure the recovery of ITS supported critical applications, systems, and operations in the event of catastrophic natural or manmade disasters. The project team is charged with updating departmental application information, and designing an infrastructure to meet the recovery needs determined for each application. They will also build a “proof of concept” recovery center in the County’s Operations Center by the end of 2007. This will provide the ability to recover one critical applications supported by ITS. The team will provide multiple options that can be used to develop budget information for requesting funding to complete the project. Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0, Vista, and Office 2007 - Testing with Office 2007 has been completed and it is now available for County Departments to implement at their convenience. Internet Explorer 7.0 is still not approved because several packaged applications are not certified by their vendors. Vista testing has been suspended, pending the release of Service Pack 1. Strategic Plan - The Johnson County Information Technology Strategic Plan was presented to and accepted by the Board of County Commissioners in August. The County Manager’s Office is currently reorganizing the Enterprise Technology Advisory Committee as recommended in the plan. |
