Backup Administration – Backup Administrators ensure that Johnson County data is backed up and available to be restored if needed. The Backup Administrators schedule backup jobs for terabytes of data on county servers and storage area networks, manage the tape libraries on-site and off-site and monitor the success of each backup. When needed, Backup administrators can restore missing or corrupted files and folders. In the event of a disaster, the Backup Administrators will be responsible for restoring county data from media being stored offsite. E-mail Administration – E-mail administrators maintain the Johnson County Microsoft Exchange e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange provides both internal and external e-mail communication. E-mail administrators also support Blackberry and Good Mobile Messaging servers, offering e-mail capability to users with Blackberry, Palm and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 compatible devices. OWA servers provide Outlook e-mail through web browsers. Faxing services are also supported through Outlook/Exchange. County E-mail Administrators are responsible for technology upgrades, anti-virus protection, message collaboration, public folders, maintaining e-mail accounts for Johnson County and District Court employees, troubleshooting and monitoring the performance of the county e-mail systems. LAN Administration - LAN administrators are responsible for the implementation and management of a Microsoft Active Directory. The Johnson County 2003 Active Directory includes all county servers, PC's, user and resource accounts. The LAN administrators provide Microsoft server support, assistance and/or direction to all Johnson County departments. Responsibilities include active directory management, server support, server operating system support, user account administration, data security and virus protection. Mainframe Operations - The Operations Group is responsible for the operating system software and applications residing on the county mainframe. This includes such tasks as monitoring and responding to console messages, mounting tapes, monitoring mainframe backup processes and producing printed output on the mainframe line and laser printers. This includes the submission of batch jobs, setting up of batch jobs in the automated scheduling system and consultation with internal ITS staff and customers to produce required reports for day-to-day business activity. It also includes the separation of printed output, verification of printed output and delivery of reports to customer locations. The Operations Group maintain existing forms and consult with internal IT staff and customers to create new electronic forms to be used on the mainframe based laser printing system. Storage Administration – Storage Administrators manage terabytes of county data stored on Storage Area Networks. The Storage Administrators work closely with LAN and UNIX Administrators to provide secured network storage assigned to county servers. Responsibilities include capacity planning with county departments, performance monitoring, performance tuning and providing reports to management regarding the growth and properties of stored data. The Storage Administrators must also work very closely with the Backup Administrators to ensure that networked stored data is protected and securely backed up to secondary disk and tape media. Unix Administration - Unix administrators maintain the Solaris operating system on Johnson County Sun servers, which host the County Oracle ERP system. The Unix Administrators provide daily support to the Oracle Support team, maintain and secure the Solaris operating system, troubleshoot hardware and operating system problems, provide performance monitoring, manage internal and external security, and implement all system upgrades. |
